The Friday Harbor Power Squadron

Welcome to America's Boating Club of the San Juan Islands (ABCSJI) formerly know as
The Friday Harbor Power Squadron.

We are nonprofit volunteer organization based in Friday Harbor, WA that promotes skillful boating fun through public and member education as well as how to maintain a safe vessel through our Vessel Safety Check Program. For more information visit our Vessel Safety Check page.

Members of ABCSJI have monthly meetings throughout fall and spring. We connect, share stories, enjoy a potluck dinner, and host a guest speaker. During spring, summer and early fall you can find us enjoying time together on the water with organized cruises or exploring on our own. If you are interested in learning more about our club and/or attending one of our meetings, please reach out to our member coordinator at membership@abcsji.org. or to learn more about becoming a member visit our Become a Member page.

The America’s Boating Club® is for all types of boaters – novice or experienced, coastal or inland waterways. We bring boaters together to improve their skills, make connections, or just enjoy time together. Our boating courses and seminars are just the beginning - beyond the classroom a world of boating fun awaits!

By joining America’s premier boating organization, you can have fun with other boaters on the water and on land! You don't need to have a boat to become a member.
We have a nationally recognized and award-winning instructor leading our education program along with other experienced teachers who live and boat in the San Juan Islands. Together they teach the ABC courses which gives you the skills you need to enjoy your time on the water and boat with confidence. Our boater safety class meets Washington State’s certification requirements to obtain your Boater Education Card
In additon to the America's Boating Course we offer a comprehensive six week Boat Handling Course including on-the-water training on our boat or yours. Individual seminars  focus on specific boating skills. We also offer specially curated programs and classes that are unique to this area.

For a complete catalog and information on all our available courses visit our Education page

Our special education series includes unique offerings aimed at helping local and visiting boaters confidently enjoy our local waters. Harbors of the San Juan Islands / Friday Harbor is our latest video series that guides you through everything you need to know about entering and navigating a harbor safely.

Mastering the Salish Sea is a series of modules that help new and experienced boaters alike develop new skills and get inside knowledge on how to best enjoy the islands. Members have access to this program for a $5 registration fee; non-members can participate for a small tuition.
